Coaching Flag Football Fall 2009 - Week 1

In my last blog entry I said that this season will be the "ride of rides". I did not realize how serious that statement was.
Instead of starting this season like "Dueling Dragons" (Roller Coaster ride at Universal Islands of Adventure), it appears that this ride will start more like the "Rock'n Roller Coaster" at the Disney Studios (if you've been there, you know what I'm talking about).
The league waited the week before the season starts to have the coaches meeting. Until last night no one had a roster and when we all realized that the first games are on the 16th, panic set in and every coach began scrambling to call parents and set up the first practice to prepare for next week.
It took me two and a half hours to call the list of 13 players I have and I'm still missing two. It seems that this will be a shaky start for everyone.
I'm ready though; this year and a half hiatus was too long for me. Although I'll miss the group at NFL Flag Football, I believe that this Blanchard Park league is a better organization despite the the fact that they forced us to hit the ground running.
I have three practices to get us up to pair. I hope the challenge will be met, otherwise this whole season will be nothing more than a preseason for the playoffs.
