Coaching Flag Football Spring 2008 - Part 1

Well everyone another season of Flag Football is upon us! I am very excited as one of my star players from my first season of coaching has returned to me and brought his little brother with him. I saw them both play last season on the Jets and I must say, it's great to have them on the team. I can hardly contain myself as I am brimming with excitement for this spring season.
Competition will be high as always and this season I am more determined to finally beat coach Parker! Yes indeed, he has been talking much noise since taking me out in the playoffs this past fall season and I will make him pay!
Right now it looks like we only have 9 kids on the team but I expect that to change by the time the season starts as some teams do not have coaches yet and more kids are expected to sign up by the deadline. If you are interested in providing a much needed role and have fun while your at it, just let me know. We could always use more coaches. All you need is patients and love for the game.
This season I have decided not to predetermine any positions and wait until the week before the season starts to have the players set to positions (of course this process could go a lot faster depending on the type of talent we have). This way I will have the chance to properly evaluate players and see where they fit best.
Last season we had a big surprise in the QB department and looking back it makes me wonder if I overlooked any other players. I struggled very much with the whole set QB thing last season because our QB, I believed was our best receiver and he was the best at running patterns. I also struggled with the RB position because we could have picked a better RB and the one we selected proved to be the best defensive center when we needed him to fill that roll.
Well that was then and this is now. I look forward to our first practice on the 6th, I have already spoken to a couple of the new parents and what they have said about their kids has made me even more excited. This season I will make sure that these blogs are up by Monday mornings the latest. My next blog will not be until after the 6th so until then stick around, because I believe that this is going to be a very hot season for us. Until next time, see ya!
