Hello folks and welcome to another weekly report of coaching flag football.
This week we met the Cowboys and lost 18-0. That's right, another lose, another game where we simply didn't score. We are now 0-2 and off to a very slow start, but I'm not even concerned much about it because we are learning and growing.
This last game was against coach Parker and it went much better then our first one. The kids had a much better sense of the game, the only problem was that they where sloppy offensively. I also have a new player on the team who is 5 years old. Between him and our 6 year old player we have a handy cap which was very evident when both of them was out on the field at the same time. Those two will never be out on the field at the same time again, nor will they play defense because they simply are not there yet.
This season has made me realize how good I've had it the last two seasons.
Before this season, all my kids except 1 or 2 had experience and can memorize all the plays, this season it's totally different and one of the main reason we have not been doing so well is because a good number of the kids this season are simply not there and I didn't realize that fact soon enough to make the proper adjustments so I'll take full responsibility. Fortunately I have a good support base in my assistant coaches who has shown me the errors of my ways and I will make the proper changes to the team.
For the the first time since I've started coaching, kids will be assigned titles. This is good because each kid will only need to focus on certain plays instead of all of them, and because of that I can now add more offensive plays. Even though we are starting the season slow I have full confidence that once we get it together we will be an unstoppable force.
I am loving this season because the dads are stepping up! I would be going completely crazy right now if it wasn't for my assistant coaches, they are great. One video tapes the games so we can review them, the other has taken over as my defensive coach, and when things seem overwhelming for the three of us one or two of the other dads will step in as well. Ever hear the adage, "It takes a whole village to raise a child"?, well I believe that it takes all the parents to raise a championship team and that is where we are heading.
I must take this time to give much props to my team parents, they all are making this season a joy. This week we go back to the drawing board but we are only tweaking this time. A lot of responsibility is being thrown to our QBs and practice will be split up into three where I'll work with the receivers, or running backs, my defensive coach will work with the QBs, and who ever I don't have the other coach will work with.
After this weekend I believe that our scoreless games have come to an end. Soon we will be seeing the real 49ers stepping up and winning games. Until next time, see ya!

I love the positivity. Looks like this is gonna be a tough season. I wonder if the other coaches go through this type of thing. shaneSDR on 10/17/2007 2:47:54 AM
