Brian Hill Out, New Era In

It was clear that Brian Hill was no longer gonna be the head coach of the Orlando Magic and with his absents now comes a new era with a new way of thinking for the Magic. The Magic didn’t like the half court offense that Hill executed, they didn’t like the way he handled the rotations, and they didn’t like that J.J. Redick didn’t get enough playing time. This off-season the Magic will be searching for a head coach to answer all those issues, and unlike the long wait for a decision on Brian Hill, this should not take too long.
As far as replacements for Hill goes, veteran coaches Larry Brown, Lenny Wilkens and Mike Fratello could be available. Veteran Rick Carlisle was fired this season by the Indiana Pacers. Phoenix assistant Marc Iavaroni and Dallas assistant Sam Vincent are also possible candidates.
Florida Gators Coach Billy Donovan, who has led the Gators to back-to-back national championships, has expressed a desire to some day coach in the NBA. But Donovan apparently is waiting on a contract extension from Florida, which can exclude him as a candidate.
Larry Brown will be expensive, plus he too plays a half court offense, which wouldn’t make any sense for the Magic to pursue him. Out of the rest to choose from Phoenix assistant Marc Iavaroni and Dallas assistant Sam Vincent are probably the Magic’s best options since they both come from successful fast pace teams.
Now it has been hinted before that if Hill were to leave the coaching position that the Magic would make an attempt to keep Darko, but with rumors of him being on the trade block the Magic might not be able to keep him and improve the team at the same time.
This also means possible changes for veteran player Grant Hill. If he return to the Magic more then likely he’ll be coming off the bench, especially since the Magic might be trading Hedo as well and move Redick to the starting line-up.
Although a lot of questions are still unanswered one thing is for sure, J.J Redick will have a chance to prove himself next season. Due to lack of playing time this past season Redick was often frustrated, but the Magic believes in him and will give him a chance to shine. Something both him and Magic fans have been waiting for.
I’ll be keeping you up to date on all the Magic happening this off season so until next time, see ya.

Wouldn't be cool if Mike Krzyzewski, would leave Duke and come to the Magic. With both Hill and Redick on the team he can do wonders. Dimitri on 5/24/2007 11:07:34 AM
At this time I'm against bringing someone up from college to coach the Magic. They need a proven coach with a great history. College coaches have not done so well coming up to the NBA. Rockness on 5/24/2007 11:11:27 AM
