July 2006
winds of change

June 2006
nba draft 2006

Whatever the future holds for Darko Milicic a Magic uniform doesn’t seem to be a part of it. The Magic face a very tough decision. Do they lose their opportunity at the free agent pool or do they take a change on a man who has lots of potential but hasn’t really proven himself yet? This is a very hard decision to make especially after Darko raised his value even high at the playoffs by being the only Magic player to produce double digit scoring in every game.

The Magic has taken chances with people before but with little or no results, remember Steven Hunter? Hunter was so frustrating for Doc Rivers that Rivers named him “The Big Tease”, and who could forget the big flops such as Tyron Lue and Sasser. All seemed to have great potential but instead of being diamonds in the rough, they all simply turned out to be nothing more then coal.

On the other hand, when the Magic have traded away players with potential it didn’t seem to go too well for the Magic either. Chauncey Billups, Ben Wallace, Matt Harping, Chris Webber, and I could continue but it just breaks my heart to think of the missed opportunities that the Magic had at greatness.

A lot of Magic fans don’t think that he’s worth the risk, but very few can argue that he has plenty of potential. The question is does the Magic really have time to wait on his potential? Currently the answer is no.

The Magic needs to shape up now. Ever since Shaq headed out west to the Lakers, the Magic have planned for the future and the glorious future the kept talking about never came. If the Magic don’t become a contender soon they might lose Dwight as they did Shaq, they might not get a new arena or worse, they might lose there remaining fan base.

Even T-Mac right before he bolted to Houston, was asked who would he prefer between Okafor and Howard when the Magic has the #1 pick that year. Tracy opted for the NBA ready Okafor over the potential of Howard. Clearly looking back now Howard was the better choice of the two, but the Magic’s chances usually go the other direction.

Whether the Magic trade Darko or not the Magic need help now. They need a dependable scorer and a good pass first point guard. The Current rumor is that the Magic are talking to the Sonics for a sign and trade for Rashard Lewis and with the Net for Vince Cater. Sonics didn’t make it to the Playoffs and the Nets got out before the semi finals so trades with either team are open right now. However there are other teams out there looking for change.

No one knows if the Magic will resign Grant Hill, and if coach Brian Hill will return in the fall, their faith is still up in the air but once the Magic decide whay they'll do, I'm sure that it will effect Darko's future. Until next time, see ya.
