nba draft 2006

Hello flag football fans and parents. I normally write one blog each week but today I just have to get something off my chest.

It didn’t occur to me until Tuesday night’s practice that I have bitter feelings towards the Redskins, and more then any other game this season I want to win this game. Winning this game is more important to me then beating the Eagles and even more then beating coach Parker and his Seahawks. It’s not because they are 3 - 0 just like we are, and it’s not because we are the only two teams in our division that is undefeated. It’s a bitter feeling from last season that I didn’t even realize I had.

Last time we ran against the Redskins, we lost. It was our 5th game of the season and our second loss. The first loss was in our first game against Parker who was coaching the Panthers at that time. That loss we marked off as a learning experience due to the fact that we only had 1 practice before that game, and the fact that I never coached a game before that one.

Coach Parker is a true sportsman and in winning or losing he makes sure that he and his kids keep the correct composer. Coach Parker will encourage you weather he’s winning or losing and in that first game of the season he was no different, that’s one reason why I look up to him. Even the Steelers were good winners when we lost to them in the first rounds of the playoffs however, the Redskins didn’t show us such grace when they defeated us.

When we lost to the Redskins that loss stung us all and it wasn’t because we were beaten, but because of their attitude while beating us. Almost every player on their team who would run to score a touchdown would taunt us by raising his index finger in the air to indicate that he was #1. This was done almost every time they scored a touchdown. I didn’t say anything about it because it’s not against the rules to showboat, but I was expecting their coach to say something and apparently he never did because they just kept doing it throughout the game. That action alone is the root of my bitterness.

Now let me get one thing clear here. I don’t hate the Redskin’s coach, the Redskins or anything like that. I don’t even know them personally. In fact, the coach may not even have been aware that he was allowing that to happen last season (I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt). I just don’t want my kids to lose and feel the way they did after that game because after that game I saw the looks on their faces and it almost brought me to tears.

Beating the Redskins won't be easy. The Redskins’ team is good and thier coach is good, but for this game, I need to be better and our team needs to once again answer the call. I’m not expecting this to be an easy game at all, which is why I’m taking this game as seriously as can be.

This weekend my philosophy will not change, I’m not gonna teach the kids to showboat with every touchdown, I’m not gonna keep all my good kids in the game the whole time, I’m not gonna stop the bad playing kids from playing or shorten their time in the game, in fact my goal will be (as always) to have all the kids run with the ball at least once during the game. However, losing to the Redskins cannot be allowed, and I’m sure that my assistant coaches feel the same way along with the parents and kids that was on this team last season. I feel like I owe it to them to make sure we win this one.

I know that winning is not everything, and I believe that kids can also grow from losing a game here and there, but this weekend; losing cannot be an option. Next time I write to you, I hope it will be with a light spirit and a 4 – 0 record. Until next time, see ya.
