Hello everyone and welcome to another addition of Coaching Flag Football. It looks like the Chiefs are on an incredible roll as we won our second game of the season 22- 0. So far we are not the only undefeated team, but we are the only team in the league that has not been scored upon yet. This is something that the whole team is proud about.
This game was a case our boys simply being faster, and their offense falling victim to the defensive mad genius who is my assistant coach. Our defense was flawless but the offense was a hot mess. At times the kids acted as if they’ve never even seen some of our offensive plays which surprised me.
On a good note, everyone had a chance to run with the ball, and each of our touch downs came from different kids. This game had a few firsts. The first one, is the fact that I didn’t start my main star kid, who always ran the first play of the game for us. The second one is that my main star kid didn’t score. And the last first was that after 3 season of playing in the league, my son scored his first touchdown run from about the 5 yard line.
This season we are, once again one of the top teams to beat if not the top team to beat and that is all because I have a team of good players and parents. If I had to compare last season’s team with this season’s team I’d have to say we are a much better team all around. Even my weakest combination of players can go toe to toe with the average team.
Next on our hit list is the Titans. While we were winning 22 – 0, they fell at the hands of the Broncos 0 – 22 which is good news for us because I’ve seen the Broncos play and the fact that their score was the same as ours is no fluke. Talent wise the Broncos are like a mirror image of us so if they can beat the Titans, we should too.
After we play the Titans, the season will shift to 5th gear. Right now there is 3 teams undefeated; us, the Redskins and the Eagles. After the Titans, we play the Redskins, which is a good team, and then we play the Eagles. The Eagles’ game will have some personal properties attached to it, not only because of Denzel, but also because just like me their coach is also a product of Coach Wayne Parker (see last season’s blogs for update). After the Eagles, we play the Seahawks who is coached by Parker.
As I told the kids after our win this past Saturday, if we are to continue winning we can’t just depend on our defense. Sooner or later, we’re gonna have to out score the other team to win. As my favorite cook Emeril Lagasse says, “It’s time to kick it up a notch”. I’m gonna start testing the kids on their knowledge of the plays, maybe that will help them with learning the plays better. This season if only one team can have an undefeated record, we will do everything possible, outside of compromising everyone having fun first, to make sure it’s us. Until next time, see ya!
