Coaching Flag Football Season 2 - preseason part-3

This Saturday is it! The first game of the season and I'm so excited I feel like I'm about to explode!
This past weekend we had an oppertunity to scrimmage against the Seahawks (coach Parker's team this season), but it was opted against. Choosing not to do it didn't go without a price though as both coach Parker and coach Jenkins made sure they spoke plenty of smack about it. It's the trash talk that makes it even more fun for us coaches because we can't play in the games.
Last season I was very green to flag football and not just with coaching flag football, but also to the game of football altogether. Because of that my style of coaching and making plays was very unconventional to say the least. There's still a lot I don't know about the sport but it's good to know that my mind is in the right area.
This season as I was making our playbook I thought I was coming up with plays that no one has ever seen, come to find out as I show them to my peers (who are true football fans) that the plays I came up with are plays performed by NFL teams. This past Sat. while at practice, I learned from my asst. coach that one of our running patterns, which I named pattern 'B' is an acual pattern called 'Z'. Until there is nothing else to learn, I'll remain a student of the game.
This season I'm trying to take a more traditional path to coaching. During the off season I realized, that one of my responsibilities as a coach of 6-8 year olds, is to help them learn the fundimentals of the game. So this season we actually warmup before doing anything, and both our plays and practices are more thought out and structured as opposed to last season when I was winging it the whole time. I hope this change doesn't effect us in a negative way because my goal is still to win every single game.
In the music recording industry weather you are a true star or a star for only a season is dependent on your sophmore album, so there is always a lot of pressure for that second album to be a success. Being that this is my second season, my sophmore season, I'm feeling that pressure to be more successful than last season. Last season we had a 5-2 record and lost in the first rounds of the playoffs. This season I really want to go 7-0 and win it all, but I'll consider this season a success if go 6-1 and past the first rounds of the playoffs.
No matter how competitive I am, or how high the pressure is to win, I'm gonna make sure that all our kids have fun this season. I'm not gonna compromise by sitting out a child to win a game no matter what, nor have my better players in the game the whole time (didn't do it last season, won't start this season). But I doubt It will ever get to that point because I believe, more so then last season, that we have the kids to go 7-0 and win it all, plus I'll be more aware of what is going on on the field during games. This season the Chiefs are gonna raise some kane, more so then last season. Until Next time, see ya!
